My collage is a collection of things that are important to me but that I rarely show. Half of it is made up of various black and white photographs and the other half is painted by me. 

This collage has three main parts, the first of which is the boat at the bottom. Before I started painting, I went through the photos of myself in my album, and when I saw the one in the collage of me holding a telescope, I thought it was interesting, so I chose it. I was in an antique shop when I took this picture, holding up a telescope made of shells and looking out. I did not expect this photo to be my inspiration and made this whole artwork out of it. When I was printing, I printed two different sizes, and I was going to choose one of them, but I realized that having both of them together had a more unique effect, so I put the big one in the back and the small one right in the front. So there are two “me”, holding two telescopes to look at different angles. Based on this picture, I came up with a sailing scenario, pretending I was a captain. So I printed a black and white rudder and drew the bow with black marker. Creating this sailing situation was an spontaneous idea, but it is a good example of me being a risk taker in some areas and love to challenge myself. This also shows my potential leadership ability.

The second part is the three pictures on the left. They are a statue of Buddha’s head, a flower and Charlotte Gainsbourg’s album, “Deadly Valentine”’s cover. Firstly, my religion is Buddhism, it is zen. I think it is very important to me because it is my spiritual sustenance. It keeps me being kind, optimistic and generous. I am always trying to be benevolent to everyone and everything, so that my religion is something to let be be aware of my behaviour. The next one, is the flower. I am a nature-loving person. I like to have flowers in my home, so that I can feel the connection to the nature outdoor. The last one is an album by Charlotte Gainsbourg that I am constantly listening to these days. I like listening to music as a hobby, I listen to all kinds of music and I find Charlotte’s songs are also very creative. She has a very soft voice full of desire, and the background music sometimes have band music which I find them suitable for fashion runways because the beat is obvious and powerful. The BGM contrasts with Charlotte’s voice. I find this mixture very interesting and I like the songs very much. It relaxes me, but at the same time, the drum beats also keep me awake.  These picture present me in a unique way, a way that people rarely knows me.

The last part is the background. I used thick markers to draw fuzzy lines that are rotating inwards. This idea is also spontaneous, it shows that I am a divergent thinker, I believe that things do not only have one way of showing them, there are myriad of ways to put them together. The background of the collage looks like a spider web that can hold everything inside. It might looks very wild, but it makes the collage a lot different.  Sometime, I need to step out of  the comfort zone and have things drawn in an unordinary way. 

My last touch on the collage was to add some gold paint to highlight some of the important elements. It creates a brightening effect an it makes my collage in black and white up to another level. I think this concept is very successful and it makes my image totally different. It shows me, while I am “sailing at sea”, treasures or new lands that I have never seen, The golden light is reflected on everything.

Finally, I Photoshop the collage and make the pictures to have a purple shade instead remain in black and white. The colour purple makes everything else in black, white and gold to look more delicate.
